Key and Ongoing Initiatives
- Durana Technology Park:
34 entities, including startups and academic institutions, have been granted resident status. An additional 50 entities are under evaluation. The virtual platform is near completion and is expected to be fully operational by June 2025. - Transformation of Elbasan Industrial Zone:
The project is converting the old industrial zone into a logistics and industrial park, promoting recreational and educational purposes. This project is part of the EU Mission Cities initiative, coordinated by the Albanian Investment Corporation (AIC) and Elbasan Municipality. - Centers of Excellence:
Two centers of excellence are planned—one for Nanotechnology in Tirana and one for Marine Biosciences in Vlora. These centers aim to diversify research infrastructure and promote regional collaboration. - EIT Raw Materials Center:
Now fully operational, this center supports the development of key and strategic raw materials, driving innovation and alignment with the European Union. - Skills Development:
In collaboration with the European Training Foundation (ETF), Albania is developing joint curricula for Western Balkan economies in the agri-food sector, to foster the adoption of advanced technologies and strengthen workforce development.
Albanian Development Bank – Strategic Instrument for Economic Transformation
Established by Law No. 23/2025, the Albanian Development Bank plays a key role in accelerating Albania’s economic transformation and increasing competitiveness as the country integrates into the EU Single Market. The Bank will focus on:
- Financing underfunded sectors
- Modernizing infrastructure
- Export support
- Strategic investments, with particular attention to SMEs and startups.
Future Outlook
The S3 Framework continues to guide growth and innovation in Albania, facilitating integration into the European Research Area. Key initiatives—such as the development of strategic centers and industry partnerships—are already underway and will play a crucial role in the country’s economic development.
